Asian countries that Indonesia is lagging in addressing  the problem  of blindness. Now the number of cases of blindness of 1.5 percent  of the  total population,  while the  number of  people with  blindness  in Asian countries  other than  Indonesia  is less  than 1  percent.

"Among some of these vision problems, cataracts are the main cause in Indonesia that affects half of the 4 million adults and children. Therefore, the problem of sore eyes is a social problem, "said Menkes.

Because 80 percent of the causes of blindness, including cataracts, can be cured, the problems facing today is how to help the majority of cataract surgery care and the poor.

Menkes appreciate the presence of philanthropic movement Matahati that since a few years ago joined the majority of assistance seeking cataract surgery from donations of various parties.
